Adult Education

Building a stronger, more productive community through education. Dedicated adults attend La Voz Latina's day and evening classes to achieve their educational and employment goals.

We Offer :

• Consumer/business education workshops in Spanish
• Immigrant & refugee education and assistance

La Voz Latina also offers the community bilingual Consumer Education workshops, small business classes, and employment workshops in partnership with area businesses and institutions.We provide the latest information on immigration and refugee assistance, including applicable public benefits.

Community Outreach

• Document translation
• Spanish classes
• Volunteer opportunities
• General information referral
• Free legal consultations with visiting attorneys

Our trained staff provides professional on-site interpretation services at the courthouse, local businesses and in medical clinics. High quality document translation is provided on a sliding fee scale. Spanish classes are taught at local businesses to enhance communication with Latino customers, patients, or employees.

Health & Family Support

Providing information and support leading to healthy families. Creating a strong and healthy family is key to building a happy, healthy society. Our dedicated and well trained staff offer:

• Home visits, support groups,& casework for pregnant/parenting teens
• Prenatal classes in Spanish
• Parenting classes in Spanish
• Home visits and referral services for Latinos with disabilities
• Parent/child literacy classes

La Voz Latina, in collaboration with local physicians, the Health Department and DCFS developed the first bilingual parenting skills course, reaching 100's of families in the area. Today, La Voz Latina provides bilingual prenatal and parenting classes in the Rockford/Belvidere area, teaching the importance of prenatal care and positive parenting skills. La Voz Latina also participates in a statewide program for Hispanic adults with disabilities, reaching those who might otherwise be underserved.

Youth Programs

Reaching out to area youth, creating confidence and inspiring success, La Voz Latina promotes a higher graduation rate among area Latino students through year-round programming:

• After-school tutoring and mentoring
• Intensive summer program for teens
• Parent meetings and seminars
• Scholarship Program
• Leadership Institutes

Students who attend our after-school and summer programs receive tutoring, leadership training, and counseling. Teens participate in a job exploration programs that emphasize higher education and bilingual careers. Partnerships with the School District, the Arts Council, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, and the Park District help enrich our programming. Parent meetings emphasize lifelong learning. La Voz Latina also offers a scholarship program for Latino high school seniors pursuing higher education.
